Kuna at a glance
Kuna is in southern Ada County, between Meridian and the Snake River. It is known as a gateway to the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area and is home to the Kuna Cave lava tube. The original town center has older homes; most newer development is single-family subdivisions on the north and east sides.
New subdivisions
Most new Kuna homes are built over crawl spaces. Common sewage problems include:
- Drain line joints that separate or leak under bathrooms and laundry rooms
- Toilet wax-ring failures that soak the subfloor and drip into the crawl space
- Main-line backups from wipes, grease or construction debris
See crawl space sewage cleanup and sewage backup cleanup.
Rural properties and septic
Farms, acreage homes and properties outside city sewer around Kuna rely on septic systems, permitted in Ada County through Central District Health. Overdue pumping, saturated drainfields and heavy water use can back sewage into the house. Keep surfacing sewage away from wells, gardens, livestock and irrigation water. See septic backup cleanup.
Who to contact about the public sewer
Homes inside Kuna city limits that are on city sewer should contact the City of Kuna for problems in the public main. The private lateral from the house to the main is generally the owner’s responsibility.
Common Kuna cleanup jobs
- Crawl space sewage leaks found by odor
- Toilet and tub backups
- Septic backups on rural lots
- Blackwater contamination of flooring and drywall
Wells and septic on the same lot
Many rural Kuna properties have both a private well and a septic system. When sewage surfaces outdoors or a system fails, keep people and animals away from the area and away from the wellhead. If sewage may have reached the well area, consider having the well water tested before drinking it — your local health district can explain testing options.
Shops, outbuildings and guest quarters
Acreage properties often have shops, barns or guest quarters with their own bathrooms tied into the septic system or a separate one. A backup in an outbuilding is cleaned the same way as one in the house, but it is easy to miss for days. Check outbuilding drains after any septic problem.
New homes and builder warranties
Many Kuna homes are only a few years old and may still be covered by a builder warranty. If a sewage problem traces back to a construction defect — a drain joint that was never glued, a lateral without proper slope, debris left in the line — contact your builder in writing with photos and the plumber’s findings. Cleanup should not wait on the warranty decision, but documentation helps your claim.
Older homes near downtown Kuna
The older blocks around Kuna’s original town center include homes built long before the recent growth. Their sewer laterals and interior drain lines are more likely to be older materials, and mature trees nearby add the risk of root intrusion. Repeat backups in these homes are worth a camera inspection to find the cause.
Irrigation season and drying
Farm irrigation around Kuna raises shallow groundwater in summer, which can keep crawl space soil damp. That moisture slows drying after a sewage leak under the house, so drying is confirmed with moisture readings rather than a set number of days.
